Mike Sherman 2011

This photograph, taken near Moab, Utah, captures the moment before a cowboy releases his rope to snare a loose steer. From the earliest days on the frontier, the rope has been the cowboy’s most important tool. And his skill at using it is unmatched. Put simply, no one has ever come up with a better way to catch horses or cattle on the loose.
